The chance to go all Bobby Fischer on Ghostface Killah...

The older I get, the more I hate Rolling Stone magazine. This hatred, of course, springs from a combination of non-Stone-like political views and a tad bit of jealousy: I mean what music fanatic doesn't at least kind of want to write for RS?

But despite my dislike, I am inclined to point out genius when I see it - and I LOVE the bolded line above, which was taken from the article below:

Of all the strange offshoots of the Wu-Tang Clan, it’s safe to say the oddest of them all launched today online: WuChess, the brainchild of Wu-Tang mad scientist RZA, is finally up and running. As the name suggests, the site is almost a social network for fans of the Wu and chess to communicate, challenge each other and “train in chambers against the computer to refine your skills.” The site also allows users to play RZA and other members of the Clan to games of chess. “The game of chess, is like a swordfight. You must think first, before you move. Toad style is immensely strong, and immune to nearly any weapon. When it’s properly used, it’s almost invincible,” says the Razor. The chance to go all Bobby Fischer on Ghostface Killah does has a price tag, though: it’ll cost $48 for a year of service.

(See the original article HERE.)

Part of me would like to believe that Wu-Tang chess is connected with the presidential bid of Barrack Obama. It's an easy way to connect mysoginistic rap with intelligence:

"Sure RZA has penned a few lyrics about coke and bitches, but he can checkmate you in three moves..."

It turns out, though, that the idea has been around for sometime. The Clan recorded the track, "Da Mystery of Chessboxin'" (which included the Razor quote at the bottom of the article above) 15 years ago.

In essence, the Wu has just been waiting around for technology to catch up with their vision.

This begs the question: should we be nominating Raekwon for president instead?
